Android apps by Google

Google, as we all know is the dad of Android. We are using some of the world's most popular software products like Gmail, Maps, Search, YouTube, Chrome, Google Pay (Tez) and many more. There is no surprises that Google pioneers top products like these and it solves complex problems that we face in everyday life.

Apart from these hugely popular android apps, Google has imprinted its existence in many other apps as well. Let's take a look at some of the apps which you might have never come across that are present in the Play Store.

Neighborly

Neighborly is a local Q&A app using which you can easily query or answer anything about the stuffs around you. The menu given you a choice of being a part of multiple localities around you. All the questions like local tuition centers for kids, swimming classes, doctor appointments and even queries about maids are being posted on the app and the responses are quite amazing. It is a great way to get in touch with locals and the neighborhood.

This is a sample screenshot of the Neighborly app. It is still in development mode and is subjected to minor bugs but kudos to the concept. People are going bonkers about answering because they get what they love. Yes, Rewards! No, users don't get paid for answering but they get rewards in the form of medals ;)

Family Link for Parents, children and teens

Have you ever thought of monitoring what your kids would do on their mobile phones and tablets? Are they doing something productive? You can monitor their usage using Family link developed by Google. It is easy to setup and highly useful to guide them to good content. You can also set their screen on time, locate where they are using their android device and many more. In addition to that, you can control apps that your child wants to download. Overall, a neat package!

Files Go

"Storage space running out, some functions may not work". I bet we might have come across this often especially if you are a download person. Files go is the app to use when you see this notification. Yes you can manually do things in the settings, but Files go discovers places where space can be cleared and all you need to do is a set of taps. It neatly categorizes files like Junk files, Large files, replicated files, Memes, etc and display the amount of space taken by them. You can snap them away in a single finger just like how Thanos did.

Opinion Rewards

Ever thought of buying a pro version of an android app in the Play Store? Opinion rewards can help you get that. It is a simple Q&A app where you are queried some simple questions for a survey from time to time and Google gives you rewards in your local currency which you can transfer to your play store credits and purchase your favorite paid android apps. Although the questions are simple, you should really wait for your turn to get your chance. Google notifies you whenever a survey is available. Go get them!

News

I'm a big fan of cricket and football. I like talking about politics as well. I want to listen to various media houses. I should follow all the popular news blogs like Android authority, xda developers forum, etc. Yes, you can definitely have everything in one place in Google News. I loved how widely it is used among the younger generation to gather news and follow their favorite topics. It is very handy and displays the news as cards. The best part about Google News is, you can see the same news being interpreted by different pages and blogs. I already have this in my home screen and using it every morning :)

P.S : It has a dark mode.
I still believe these are just like hobby projects for a company like Google. They exist to solve more complex software problems. For me, Google Maps is the world's most hardest engineered android app ever to be built by humans. It is just another day at Google and it continues to give us great android apps.

Sachin Tendulkar's legendary journey

"I see myself when I see Sachin play"  -Cricketing legend Sir Don Bradman Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, had represented India at the age of 16. Rather than asking 'How old are you?', people who were longing to query his age would have asked him 'How young are you?'. Such a prodigy he was and still is one. He was given his first international cap on 15 November 1989 and exactly 23 years and 364 days later, he played his last international cricket match for his nation and on a combo, it was his 200th test match.              Sachin has scored over a 34,000 international runs, and there are no exclamations for that huge milestone after describing him as a prodigy. But still seeing another cricketer of his quality and matching his frequency, is very far away from my eyes. But who knows he might be somewhere playing cricket in schools, or schooling in kinder gardens, or building blocks in play schools, or might even be an unhatched embryo.              On m

Object oriented SDK development

If you are someone who is into object oriented SDK development and looking for some best practices on API design, I have got you covered here. I have used C++ as the base to explain the core. OpenCV is one of the frameworks I have come across that does an exceptional job in providing classic and productive APIs in C++. Let's not waste time an quickly jump into the best practices of object oriented API design. Design easy-to-read API names First and foremost thing to consider in an object oriented SDK is the API name itself. Your API names should reveal everything. Keeping APIs as small as possible can be a difficult task but that is what you should deliver. The API should do what the name says. Nothing more. Nothing less.  Write your headers and review it Before you jump into development, it is important to code what the user wants. To have a crosscheck on that, write a header file(.h or .hpp) containing the public/private functions and data members. In this process,
